How To Eat Out In Wanstead, Stay On Track And Still Lose Weight

Dieting can often make people panic when they get invited for a meal out.

What do I do?
This meal out is going to ruin my diet!
There’s no way I can eat there and stay on track!
— Panicking dieter

Don't panic. We've got you covered.

If you know you're eating out in the evening, you might opt to have slightly less food during the day to compensate for what you're going to enjoy the evening.

And there are ALWAYS better choices you can make when eating out.

That doesn't necessarily mean just a boring leafy salad either.

So, here are 5 restaurants on Wanstead High Street or nearby Leytonstone and meals you can enjoy at each to help stay on track with your goals!

Bombetta -  Mouth-watering Italian food cooked on a grill

Tuna 3 Ways with Chilli, Ginger & Honey with New Potato and Barley Salad

There's a large range of char-grilled options which are great to opt for as they aren't often stacked up with calories and relatively higher in protein. Tuna is a fantastic source of lean protein that's going to help you stay fuller for longer.

If you want to go one step further with this choice, you could ask for the dressing to be on the side as they are often packed with oil.

The Duke - family friendly, neighbourhood pub & dining room in Wanstead

Pan Fried Corn Feed Chicken Breast with asparagus, purple potato and chorizo butter sauce.

Chicken breast is a fantastic cut of meat if you are after something lean and high in protein. Plus you'll be getting 2 of your 5-a-day with the asparagus and purple potato!

Again, if you want an extra step in the right direction of staying on track ask for the butter sauce to be on the side so you can use as little or as much as you want.

Luppolo - NEIGHBOURHOOD PIZZERIA

Parma ham, cherry tomatoes, pine nuts & rocket pizza

What's life without pizza?! Even when dieting and looking to lose weight, you can still enjoy delicious foods. It might mean you don't go for a pizza, garlic bread, a side of olives and a beer or the other extreme of just a salad. Choose a pizza you know you will enjoy and either a diet drink or a less calorie dense alcoholic drink such as gin & slim line tonic.

The next step up from that might be ordering a pizza and a small salad. Then rather than having the whole pizza enjoy half today and take the other half home for tomorrow's dinner!

The Manor House - PUB, DINING ROOM & COFFEE HOUSE

South Coast Sea Bass with New Potatoes, French Beans & Basil Oil

Here you've got a great selection of snacks, salads, sharing plates, burgers and main dishes to choose from. White fish such as sea bass goes perfectly with new potatoes and it is also a decent source of omega-3 fatty acids. Plus with french beans in there, you're going to be topping up your green veggie count.

When it comes to eating out, a lot of the calories we consume can come in the form of delicious liquids. So rather than having that bottle of white wine with your fish, opt for a spirit and a diet mixer such as a vodka and diet lemonade.

The Birds - PUB HEAVEN IN E11

Chicken burger & super salad

I'll be honest, looking at the menu at first, it was a little difficult to pick a diet friendly option. But as we always say, there IS always a better option.

If Brad and myself were to head here, we could easily get a beef burger & dirty fries each with some crispy buffalo wings and truffle mac & cheese to share. So let's be a little more sensible and opt for a chicken burger & super salad on the side.

Burgers are amazing! Hands down. To make this meal a little more diet friendly you could opt to have it without the avocado (unless you actually enjoy it!) and get the salad dressing on the side so you're in control of how much you have.
